I am a learning professional (am I?). Therefore, I blog.
I was forced into this by the Big Question on the Learning Circuits blog. It gave me the stimulus and I responded in kind. Now, where is my reinforcement?
But, seriously, who is a learning professional? A professional who learns? A professional who belongs to the “learning industry?” (What kind of industry is that anyway?) A professional who designs learning? A teacher? Or, just a learner?
And what does it mean to professionalize learning? Research and empirical data feeding into the codification of rules and methods to enhance learning effectiveness? Or, is it research and empirical data feeding into the opening up of multiple possibilities (and problems) of enhancing learning effectiveness?
What does it mean to enhance learning effectiveness? Enhance memory and retention? Enhance integration of skills and knowledge? Or is it about sharpening critical thinking skills? Or all of these and more?
Raising questions without providing answers may not be the best way to begin a blog. Or, is it? Perhaps, that's the main impetus for a "learning professional" to blog. Otherwise, you might raise these questions only with like-minded colleagues over coffee. A blog allows you to have coffee with strangers across the world.
